WebThe Island Lakes Trail is one of the few Smith River National Recreation Area trails that include a subalpine lake as its final destination. This trail leads hikers through several different forest types and climbs steeply to a roughly 10 acre high mountain lake. WebThe trail begins off the Doe Flat Road and descends along an old road for three miles to a beautiful little camp along the South Fork Smith River. After crossing the river, you will enter the Siskiyou Wilderness where the trail climbs steeply through old growth forests and ends at picturesque Island Lake.
