WebTopological Materials. Topological insulators are a newly discovered state of quantum matter. They feature a bulk gap and an odd number of relativistic Dirac fermions on their surfaces. While their bulk is insulating, the surfaces can conduct electric current with a well-defined spin texture. Spin-orbit interaction plays an important role.
