I have not had a Mustang stick car, but on many flywheels, I believe you can replace the ring gear if you have to. May make the cost of the whole deal too high though.

WebNov 21, 2013 · If you are missing teeth from the flywheel, I cannot possible think of any way a faulty starter would cause this. They usually just grind at the flywheel. If you came to my dealer, I would replace the flywheel and starter under the powertrain warranty and code the causal part failure to the flywheel. WebDec 20, 2007 · If your starter pinion ever lands on the missing tooth, you are up the creek unles you turn motor by hand to grab the next one. You need to put a new flywheel on. Go get a starter from a differant source. Look inside the carton and it should have starter shims, depth rod, and instructions. Follow them.

Take the crank sensor out,turn until the missing teeth are visible in the hole,then turn engine and count teeth until you are at the TDC marking on the vibration damper. If so and you cut a sction out it'll never be tight enough.Maybe you can build up missing teeth and file them to shape.The heat from welding may still let the gear stretch enough to get loose. grand gulf military park camping
